Recreation NL’s facility locator has moved to CAN Active Insights, a free national data platform for sport, physical activity, recreation and parks. It replaces our old Newfoundland and Labrador facility map with a much broader tool that covers recreation infrastructure across Canada and can show how those spaces are used.

CAN Active Insights brings together data on recreation facilities, participation, how people move through spaces, community needs and economic impact, all on one platform. It was built by the sector, for the sector, through a partnership of three Canadian non-profits: the Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute (CFLRI), the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) and the Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC). ActiveXchange is the technology partner.
Its data comes from Statistics Canada, national, provincial and territorial datasets, CFLRI research and other trusted sources. All of it is aggregated, anonymized and compliant with Canadian privacy standards.
Municipalities, Indigenous governments, local service districts, recreation departments, community groups and sport organizations. Anyone who plans, runs or advocates for recreation in their community can use it.
Some advanced reports and add-ons are paid. You’ll find details on the CAN Active Insights website.
